Fi

I recently decided to update our aging Google Nexus 5 phones to the newly released Nexus LG 5X phones. Google had just released the Nexus 5X, and 6PP at the time of this post, and they were offering a 50 $ dollar Play Store credit per phone so I decided to take full advantage of the offer. When I made the decision to switch my Family over to pure Android Nexus it really didn’t have anything to do with the phones themselves, but more the whole Google ecosystem, Gmail, Drive, Docs, Material Design etc…

Two Carriers One Plan

Now we have another exciting feature to look forward to..! Through new technology developed with Google and their partners such as Sprint and T-Mobile, Project Fi puts you on the best available network between Wi-Fi and two 4G LTE networks. This means you get access to more cell towers and 4G LTE in more places.

Open

With Project Fi connections happen automatically using open available WiFi networks, between Carriers. The connections are protected by sending the data over secure Virtual Private Network (VPN). This secure connection protects the data from being looked at by others using the same open Wifi connections. Simple and open.

Current Carriers

  • T-Mobile

We of course we can’t talk about Google‘s Project Fi without mentioning the new phone lineup, and the ability to make Wifi Calls are now both fully supported on P6, and 5X Phones. If you have a Nexus 6 you can take advantage of Project Fi today by simply signing up. https://fi.google.com/signup
